Imagine temperatures of around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius to accompany you throughout the year. Yes, thanks to its location, you can sail in Thailand all year round. And that's not all.

In addition to perfect sailing conditions, you'll also discover breathtaking underwater life, hidden swimming gems and unspoiled nature. And on top of all that, you'll enjoy the local cuisine.

All these aspects make Thailand an unbeatable destination for any sailor.

Tip 1: Choosing the right season for sailing

Understanding the weather and seasons in Thailand

To make your yachting adventure in Thailand truly memorable, understanding the local weather and seasons is key. Thailand has two main seasons - the rainy season and the dry season.

The rainy season brings stronger winds and frequent but brief showers.

On the other hand, the dry season is characterized by lighter winds and stable weather, which is ideal for those of you who are just starting out in sailing. Temperatures hover around a pleasant 30°C and the sun shines almost every day.

November to April, the dry season, is considered the best time for sailing. During these months you can expect calm seas.

Best months for sailing

For those of you looking for the perfect sailing holiday, choosing the right season is essential. From November to April, Thailand enjoys a dry season - the winds are gentle, the sun shines and the water temperature is downright inviting for swimming. Plus, less rain means more sunny days on board and the chance to explore Thailand's beautiful bays. So, if you're looking for the perfect time for your sailing holiday, you've just found it.

2. Tip: Choosing the perfect yacht

Luxury at sea: If you're looking for something extra, crewed yachts offer everything from a professional chef to full itinerary planning. This is true luxury at sea.

Sailing skills: don't forget to consider your sailing experience. For those who are not experienced sailors, a skippered yacht is the ideal choice.

Choose the right charter company: Working with a specialist charter company can make choosing a yacht much easier. They can help you find the right boat to meet your needs and budget.

The importance of a qualified captain

Choosing an experienced skipper is the key to a successful and safe voyage. A professional skipper can open the door to an unforgettable experience thanks to their knowledge of the weather, seasons and the beautiful bays of Thailand.

Here are a few reasons why choosing a captain is so important:

  • Local knowledge: a captain with local knowledge can take you to hidden coves and show you places others only dream of.
  • Safety: A professional captain will ensure that your cruise is not only relaxing, but most importantly, safe.
  • Local regulations: Respecting local regulations is essential in protected areas, and the captain will ensure this.

3. Tip: Lenses beautiful bays and hidden pearls

Similan Islands: a diver's paradise

For those of you looking for a diving experience, the Similan Islands are literally a paradise on earth. These jewels of the Andaman Sea are renowned for their crystal clear waters and breathtaking underwater life. Visibility often exceeding 30 metres makes them a diver's paradise. Here you can encounter sharks, manta rays and an endless variety of tropical fish in their natural habitat.

Visit these islands during the high season from November to April, when the sea is calm and allows for safe sailing and diving. For sailing enthusiasts, this is the perfect time to explore the beautiful bays and underwater scenery.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, the Similan Islands offer a wide range of locations from shallow coral gardens to deep water reefs.

Yachtsman Tip: Before heading to the Similan Islands, make sure you have the right equipment and sufficient knowledge of the local conditions.

What you should know about navigation and local laws

When you're going yachting in the beautiful waters of Thailand, it's important to keep in mind a few key points for navigation and compliance with local laws. First of all, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the areas where navigation is restricted or even prohibited. Knowing the local rules is absolutely crucial, especially when it comes to anchoring and respecting protected marine parks. Special permits may be required in some areas.

  • The importance of up-to-date nautical charts and GPS systems cannot be underestimated.
  • Basic compass and sextant skills should be part of your equipment in case of technical failure.

For those of you embarking on a sailing trip in Thai waters, it is crucial to remember that preparation and knowledge of local conditions are essential for a safe and enjoyable sailing experience. 5. Tip: Route and activity planning

How to plan your route efficiently
Effective route planning for sailing requires not only thorough preparation but also knowledge of local conditions. Keeping an eye on the weather forecast is key, as in Thailand's tropical climate weather changes can be rapid and unpredictable. The monsoon season brings heavier rains and winds that can affect your plans, while the months outside the monsoon season offer more stable weather and calmer seas, ideal for sailing.

  • Consider the distances between stops to make efficient use of your time at sea.
  • Include in your itinerary a visit to well-known destinations such as the Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay or the Similan Islands. These locations offer breathtaking seascapes and abundant underwater life, perfect for snorkeling and diving.
  • Take into account anchorages during the night and the need for fuel and food supplies.

Utilizing the services of local marinas and ports can greatly ease the logistics of cruising. Consultation with the yacht captain or local experts can provide valuable advice and recommendations based on current conditions and their experience. Planning your itinerary is thus essential to maximise your time at sea and ensure that your holiday runs smoothly and without unnecessary complications. For those of you eager to explore the beautiful bays and endless horizon, it is important to have a carefully thought out plan.

Recommended activities yacht and around

If you are planning a yachting adventure in Thailand, your adventure can include a wide range of activities. Here are a few tips to make the most of your holiday:

  • Fishing - Catch exotic fish right from the deck of your yacht. With any luck, you can have a fresh catch for dinner.
  • Snorkelling and diving - Discover an underwater world full of colourful fish, sharks or manta rays. The coral reefs are magical.
  • Explore caves and hidden lagoons by kayak or paddleboard. Every cave holds a story, every lagoon a treasure.
  • Visit secluded beaches - These beaches are like something out of a fairy tale and only accessible from the sea.
  • Exploring local markets - Taste traditional Thai specialties and experience the true atmosphere of Thailand.
  • Trek to the jungle- Discover hidden waterfalls and lush vegetation. Every step is a new discovery.
  • Cultural experiences - Buddhist temples and monuments are full of tranquility and beauty.

Don't forget plenty of memory cards for your camera as every moment is worth it.

How to get to Thailand and what to bring

Practical information for entering Thailand

If you're going on a yacht to Thailand, it's crucial to carry a valid passport. This must be valid for at least six months from the time of your arrival. On arrival, most travellers, including citizens of the Czech Republic, will receive a free 30-day tourist visa.

Important advice: Check visa requirements before you leave, as they may change.

Have proof of funds to cover your stay and a return ticket ready. Health insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment is now a requirement and must be valid for the duration of your stay.

Practical tip: Don't forget to get vaccinated against hepatitis A and B, typhoid and tetanus. Although it is not compulsory, it is a good prevention against possible health problems. In tropical climates and areas at risk of malaria, it is important to use repellents and sleep under a mosquito net at night.

What to pack

For yachting in Thailand you need to choose carefully what you pack. Take light, breathable clothing suitable for tropical weather. Don't forget a swimsuit, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and sunscreen with a high SPF.

Tip for you: In case of rain, a waterproof jacket will come in handy. For trips to the mainland, sturdy shoes are essential.

Pack some dressier clothes for evenings on deck or dinners at shore restaurants. A personal first aid kit should include medicines for common ailments and mosquito repellent. Carrying a basic first aid kit is a must.

Important accessories include a waterproof backpack or hiking bag and a waterproof case for your mobile phone and documents. Don't forget a good quality camera or camcorder to record memorable experiences. An international adapter and power bank to charge your electronic devices are also a must. This way you can enjoy the beautiful bays and the sailing season in Thailand without any worries.
